PTRM: PROFILE REQUIRMENTS NEEDED FROM A PSD/CPO/BG

 

(PSD – Personal Security Detail / CPO – Close Protection Officer / BG – Body Guard)

 

Minimum entrance requirement qualifications:

 

1.         A CPO/PSD/BG must have a matriculation-level qualification and the

            following attributes;

 

a.         Personal Attributes: A CPO/PSD/BG should:

 

 i.          Be intelligent and confident,

 

ii.          Have a positive attitude and be committed to the profession

            of protection,

 

iii.         Have a well balanced personality, with no serious psychological

             problems,

 

iv.         Have a natural inclination to explore matters further, rather than

            accepting them at face value,

 

v.         Be self disciplined and responsible,

 

vi.         Be able to stay alert during long working hours,

 

vii.        Remain calm in stressful situations.

 

b.         Physical attributes required: A CPO/PSD/BG should:

 

 i.          Be physically fit, without any disabilities,

                       

ii.          Neat and professional in appearance,

 

iii.         Be of similar build and height to the principal,

                       

iv.         Maintain a healthy life style,

 

v.         Be physically capable of working long hours under adverse conditions and

            coping with frequent unplanned absences from home.

 

c.         Social Attributes required: A CPO/PSD/BG should:

 

 i.          Have a broad general knowledge,

 

ii.          Be socially skilled and adaptable, well spoken, a good communicator,

 

iii.         Be familiar with protocol and etiquette,

                                                                                                                                   

iv.         Maintain a sober life style, both on and off duty,

                       

v.         Be punctual and courteous,

                       

vi.         Be diplomatic and trustworthy.

           

d.         Skills required: A fully trained CPO/PSD/BG should:

 

i.          Be familiar with all the legal issues regarding the protection profession,

                       

ii.          Be able to co-ordinate and plan protection operations,

 

iii.         Be trained in the most of the following close protection disciplines:

                       

                                    (1).       Identification of explosives,

                                    (2).       Protection theory and practices,

                                    (3).       Advanced driving techniques,

                                    (4).       Unarmed combat,

                                    (5).       Surveillance and counter intelligence,

                                    (6).       First Aid,

                                    (7).       Shooting.

 

2.         Other very important aspects that they must have knowledge in is;

 

a.         Protocol and etiquette,

 

b.         Venue protection and foot formations,

 

c.         Transit Protection and motor cades,

 

d.         Map reading, self defence legalities and radio communication,

 

e.         Principles of threat assessment,

 

f.          Surveillance and counter measures,

 

g.         Hostage survival,

 

h.         Bombs, explosive devices and firearms.
